The CSUEB Department of Biology     Natural History Collections

Picture
Welcome to the homepage for the Natural History Collections of the Department of Biological Sciences here at California State University, East Bay. We are proud to be the custodian of a relatively small but healthy collections of marine invertebrates, insects, fishes, amphibians, non-avian reptiles, birds and mammals. Through these collections, we strive to  encourage an understanding and stronger appreciation for biological diversity in anyone who visits our on-campus facility, our online site and/or takes a course or attends a program using these specimens. There is plenty to learn and much more to discover about our natural world and we hope that our collections will be one tool through which we can support this.

The collections and this website are primarily maintained by CSUEB students who are participating in the SCOLEX (Science COllections Learning EXperience) program for Independent Study credit and/or who are volunteering their time. These students are supervised by one of the members of the SCOLEX Program faculty advisors.

We invite you to learn more about the SCOLEX Program and our Natural History Collections through this site. And, of course, if you would like to visit the onsite facilities, let us know and we can work with you to schedule an opportunity to visit.

Thank you for your interest in our program and collections!

"It is that range of biodiversity that we must care for--the whole thing--rather than just one or two stars."
~ Sir David Attenborough
