Hagfish are known for their production of slime as a form of protection from predators. Due to their lack of eyesight, myxini have an exceptional sense of touch and smell which are helpful in finding burrowed worms or lifeless fish.
Additionally, hagfish have four pairs of tentacles and two pairs of teeth which aid in the consumption of their food.
More over, hagfish do not have a larval stage due to the expression of direct development.
